Mercury Music Prize is the only one I really take notice of. Past winners like Portishead, P J Harvey, Primal Scream etc.
How the fuck Gomez - Bring It On won in 1998 over Massive Attack's Mezzanine is beyond me.

I remember when Gomez won it with their debut album Bring It On...It was a corker but nothing much of note after that.
They beat label mates The Verve who of course we're nominated for Urban Hymns that year

The judges definitely try too hard to be hip and edgy, and 'current'.

Fender is superb, writes all his own stuff and is a great live performer. Styles is like Sheeran, manufactured shite aimed at people who prefer image to content and listening schmaltzy bollocks written by groups of people.
Sign Of The Times was ok, took 6 people to write the fucking thing though.

I believe the Vengaboys are Dutch and therefore wouldn't be eligible for the Mercury Music Prize.
